Drug Information
Chantix is a smoking cessation drug; if used in conjunction with behavior alteration and psychotherapy support can help you to quit smoking. Manufactured and distributed by Pfizer, Inc., New York, Chantix has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May, 2006.
Chantix as a smoking cessation drug works due to the presence of its active ingredient, varenicline tartrate. Varenicline is an a4 b2 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Partial Agonist. The presence of this new molecular unit has received rave reviews from the FDA as an indication of having potential health benefits. Chantix with the help of varenicline tartrate works at the nicotine-affected sites in the brain by providing some nicotine effects to ease the withdrawal symptoms and by blocking the effects of nicotine from cigarettes on resumption of smoking.
